Heat Pumps available in SE Alaska service area
Hello there from AP&T – I wanted to share the great news that $4k to $8.5k per household is now available for installation of residential heat pumps in AP&T’s SE Alaska service areas, thanks to the ACES program by SE Conference and Alaska Heat Smart. Every household is eligible for at least $4k regardless of income! Please help inform others in your community of this news by sharing far and wide! Access to clean, affordable heat is more economically viable than ever before!
The waitlist is now open. Here is a link to the application: https://airtable.com/appqnRy3vQydpeAO7/pago2qH8YLKiSeeS5/form
Note that you will need to apply and receive approval through the ACES program before installation of your heat pump.
On a side-note, the State-administered Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is currently available to low-income households to help pay for the ongoing cost of electric heat. Plus, AP&T’s customers get the benefit of the State’s power cost equalization program, up to 750 kWh per month!

The latest Alaska Heat Smart (AHS) program, ACES, could be your ticket to saving big on home heating costs! AHS, in partnership with the Southeast Conference, is rolling out the ACES program with the aim of slashing heating costs for coastal Alaska homeowners across the region. The 5-year, $39M program will help families from Ketchikan to Kodiak surmount the often prohibitive cost of converting fossil-fuel home heating systems to energy-efficient heat pumps in Alaska’s southern and central coastal communities. Generous financial incentives coupled with empowering home energy assessments will enable the installation of up to 6000 heat pumps in 43 coastal communities!
To be eligible for the ACES program, your home must meet the following criteria:
- Your home is located within the ACES region – coastal communities from Ketchikan to Kodiak.
- The address for which you are applying is your primary dwelling.
- The home’s primary heating system must currently use oil, propane, gas, or wood.
- If you are a renter, you must have a signed tenant-property owner agreement in place prior to starting the project. Property owners cannot apply for a property that is not their primary residence. The tenant living at that address must apply, and will receive the incentive payment upon project completion.
- Unfortunately we cannot provide retroactive incentives for households that have recently or are currently installing heat pumps. You must fill out an application to the ACES program, complete an income verification, receive a home energy assessment that deems you eligible for the program, and receive final program approval prior to purchasing any equipment or starting your heat pump project. Projects that are started prior to approval will not be eligible. You can learn more about the step-by-step process here.
